Although it is strictly speculation, it was a United States Court that tried, convicted and ultimately imprisioned Andrew Luster, who is the great-grandson of Max Factor. It was shortly after Luster was imprisioned, when Max Factor stopped selling their products in the US. Luster is: "The reflection of light from the surface of a mineral, described by its quality and intensity; the appearance of a mineral in reflected light." Common descriptive words would be glassy, dull, earthy, waxy, vitreous, metallic, etc...
Luster is not a color, but a visible characteristic of the mineral's reflection of light off it's surface. In this case, the color of biotite is dark brown to black, but it's luster would be described as vitreous or glassy.
