I think the movie you're talking about is Judgment Night, starring Emilio Estevez, Cuba, Stephen Dorff and Jeremy Piven as the friends, and Dennis Leary as the bad guy. The friends are on their way to a concert and they take a shortcut to avoid traffic. They get lost, end up in a bad neighborhood and witness a murder. From that moment on, they are marked for death and spend the rest of the movie trying to escape Leary.
