1997 neon won't start we tested the battery relays fuses and changed the ign switch When the key is in it dings the lights and horn work but when you turn the key no rollover starter clicking or radio?

I have had this happen before, Make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Hope this helps. Can be a bad starter or corroded connections. If the battery is over 3 years old or has been discharged more than once, replace it.

I just had the same thing happen with my Nissan. Your car died because your battery is bad. The clicking sound is also because your battery is bad most likely. It could be your starter, but always start with the cheap and easy fixes before moving on. If it's not you battery it is either you starter or your ignition.

If you have already replaced the battery, then you have a few other things to look at.It could be the starter itselfit could be the starter solenoid which might be integrated with the starter or mounted somewhere in the engine compartment. You can find it by tracing the thick positive wire (red - about the size of a finger) to where it goes. If it goes directly to the starter then the solenoid is integrated and more difficult to testIt could be the positive wire itself and is not making a good connection to the battery or starter/starter solenoidIt could also be the ground wire (Black - about the size of a finger). If this wire is not making a good connection from the battery to the engine block, it will keep the starter from workingI would start with the wires, making sure you have a good connection and then work your way to the starter. The clicking is usually a result of the starter not getting enough current to crank the engine.

first thing to check is the battery cables, corrosion will allow enough current for lights but not enough to engage the starter, once the terminals and cables are cleaned and tightened go to where the positive cable is connected to the starter and make sure it is clean and tight, then there is a smaller wire also going to the starter, same for it. If nothing helps have the battery tested, then remove the starter and have it tested as well before replacing either one

if it is making a clicking noise then it is probably the starter. If its and older car jump start and take the red wire off the battery. If it shuts off its the starter. If you can get to the starter hit it with a small hammer some times they just lock up. Take it to any autozone and they will tell you for sure. it also could be the fuel pump.you didnt say what is was doing. you must figure out if it getting gas, electric actually if you take off the battery cable and it dies its the alternator not the starter

either clean and tighten cable connections or get battery tested. if not the battery, it is the solenoid or the starter If it is clicking and not starting at first, but starts after a few tries, its your starter taking a dump. Replace it.

A low or dead battery will have this effect. There is enough juice in the battery to activate the solenoid in the starter (causing the clicking sound), but not enough to turn over the engine.
