Yes, I studied with him this summer and learned that Marcel Moyse said of him "He was without a doubt my successor." That is truly saying something. Additionally, he was the star pupil of the Juilliard Flute professor George Barrere, the principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic for quite awhile. Additionally, Bernard, whom is affectionally nicknamed "Bernie," held the principal flute position of the Pittsburgh Symphony for 46 years, one of the longest "reigns" of any orchestral flute player. He also taught at Duquesne University for many years as a tenured and esteemed professor. Also of significance is his premiering many great flute works, include those by Frank Martin, Lennox Berkeley, Leonard Bernstein, and the Pittsburgh premiere of the Prokofiev Flute Sonata. He now teaches at the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music. A few of his students include Eric Hoover, Pamela Endsley, Dr. Wendell Dobbs, and Wendy Kummer.

Mr. Bernard Z. Goldberg was born on January 27, 1924.
