Try learning (understanding) each instrument one line (3-4 measures) at a time, and then go to the next (Vln I,then II, then Vla, etc.). As you work your way through the score you will see many inversions, retrogrades, thematic and rhythmic manipulations, truncations, etc. If you don't have that much time, listen to a recording multiple times while reading the score, you'll see the big picture (structure) but not the subtle details that make this piece as wonderful as it is.
