Were they ever?

They are slaves to their traditions in no different way than European descended women are slaves to their traditions.

Historically speaking European women were more slaves than Native American women were. As one example, Cherokee women owned all property (other than personal property) and men did not; at this same time in Europe women could not own property, this rule was the same in America until 1839 (Married Women's Property rights act).

As far as traditions go there are many different degrees between these 'stages' and some women choose to follow those traditions where others do not.

Why were women and slaves left out of the Declaration?

I recently covered this subject in history class. John Adams' wife suggested women be in the declaration, but he did not put them in. For a brief time after the declaration of independence was issued women were given the right to vote, but then it was taken away until the 1900's ( you'd have to look up exactly when women got the right to vote again.) The Declaration of Independence states that human beings had unalianable rights and such. While slaves, back then, were not counted as human beings. Slaves were merely a posession. If a " master" killed a slave, it was not murder. Simply because, slaves were not humans to them. Slaves were simply a property. Even after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves were still being used in some places.

What affects has the Civil War had on the 20th century?

If we hadn't had the civil war than we might still have slaves today. Also as a reprecution of that, former slaves began demanding for more rights and then that led to women and every other minority out there to stand up for their basic rights. So if there had been no civil war, women might still not even be able to vote.

What jobs do slaves have?

Slaves worked on farms and plantations that their owners kept. Some women slaves were used to do house chores. Slaves were not paid for a period of 4 years (due to a contract that all slaves signed) then with whatever riches they still carried with them they would be able to either start a farm or business of their own or continue their previous job (with pay)
