I myself would not do this as the Jeep is a Uni-body construction and if you catch the plow on a curb you could bend the body to a point where the doors will not open.

I have a 99 JGCL and my problem was a small wire that connects near the front brakes. It was about 2 feet long if I remember correctly and was the abs sensor or something. It cost about forty dollars. If you go to Advanced Auto Parts they might diagnose it for you for free, and tell you if that is really your problem. Good Luck
Any major brand of your choice. Weight is determined by the manufacture. I think it is 5w30, but I am not 100% sure. Look in your owner's manual, or on the oil fill cap. If not listed call your local Jeep dealer to be sure.

it should be downshifting AS you stop not after. plugged filter is possible but not probable, sounds like the tranny needs major service.
