You can, but it is extremely complicated and not worth it. Your much better off just getting the deck with the dash mount and wiring harness so it makes hook-up easier and allows you to swith back to stock incase you decide to sell the vehicle later on.

∙ 13y agoIf you used a harness kit or saved the original pigtail, you can put the original radio back in. If you chopped off the pigtail and didn't keep it you'll need to find a new one and solder it back on.

put in the stock radio, does your car start, if it does then its the radio causing the problem, if not then more problems then the radio. if it does start with the stock radio in i would think the aftermarket radio is causing some kind of fault in the car, perhaps the radio is sending a faulty message in the i-bus telling the car not to start. i would jump out any bus wires so they are not routed through the aftermarket radio and see what happens. good luck.

I replaced the stock radio in my 04 with another stock radio. I'm not sure about the 03, but my 04 has the "anti-theft" system on it...or whatever they call it. I bought a stock radio from a salvage yard and swapped it out. But I had to take it to the dealership and pay them $40 to hook up their computer to it and program the "anti-theft" code into the new radio. The radio isn't hard to swap out, pop the plastic trim unit off the front and four screws ( or 8mm bolts...can't remember which right now) and the radio slides out. Just unplug the power cable and antenna and plug them into the new ones. If you go in with an aftermarket, head to a car stereo shop or Best Buy and buy the plug that fits from the aftermarket radio to GMC. It saves from needing to do any rewiring.
