The ball joint is located on the front knuckle. There is one on the top and bottom of each side.
Here is a photo of it: http://www.myjeepxj.com/uploads/images/Jeep/Lift/Front/Front%20003%20(Custom).jpg
jack up the front of the jeep and support the front axle with jack stands. then put a pry bar under the tire and use the bar to push up on the tire. if the spindle moves up then you have bad lower ball joints. after checking that put your hands on the tire at 12 o clock and your other hand at 6 o clock and push with the top hand and pull out at the bottom and it the spindle moves your upper ball joint is bad.
Will bolt up, but will not shift. The 1998 is controlled differently by the computer.
I mean how do you disassemble the fan blower in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. how do you remove the blower fan from the car in the Grand Jeep Cherokee Laredo.

The only differences are between a regular Cherokee and a Grand Cherokee.
Me friend has a 1995 (same model as yours) jeep grand Cherokee with a 4in lift and it seems to be fine. I have a 1998 grand Cherokee and am thinking about putting some spacers in it.

A Cherokee would have the AW4. A Grand Cherokee would have a 44RE.
It is not adjustable.
"how do you change a throttle position sensor on a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee?" could someone without any experience do it?
The front axle is not disengaged OR the front u-joints are starting to fail.
