Janis Joplin never recorded Leavin' On a Jet Plane. There's a song on You Tube that people claim to be her but it isn't. John Denver, Peter Paul & Mary, and others have recorded it.
"The House Song"
She may have performed this song but its originally a song by Dusty Springfield. No hun who ever wrote that she did has no knowledge of musical history. Janis DID not sing Son of a Preacher Man.She also did not sing- The Rose- Entertainer- White Rabbit- Brand New Key- Ragtime- Leaving on a Jet Plane- Scarlet BegoniasThere is a song making the rounds purporting to be Janis singing the song "Scarlet Begonias" with the Grateful Dead. She never sang with the Dead. However the song in question is the Grateful Dead and is from their "Dick's Picks" series of music CDs, volume 6, disc 2 of 3, recorded live on 1983-10-14 at the Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, Ct.And never recorded with Bob Dylan. There is also another song out there claiming to be sung by: Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison but they never sang together.I found this:http://www.ilike.com/artist/Janis+Joplin/track/Son+of+a+Preacher+Man----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You said.."She never sang with the Dead."Rock-n-roll Festival Express, she did sing along side of the Greatful Dead. From June 28 to July 4, 1970, Joplin and Full Tilt joined the all-star Festival Express tour through Canada, performing alongside the Grateful Dead, Delaney and Bonnie, Rick Danko and The Band, Eric Andersen and Ian and Sylvia.[6] They played concerts in Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John Denver wrote "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and it was recorded by his band The Mitchell Trio in 1967. The most famous version is by Peter, Paul, and Mary from 1969. It has been covered by too many artists to list. The version in the Bing.com commercial is by Me First & The Gimme Gimme's.
Incorrect:Jeff Jefferson did NOT write "Leaving on a Jet Plane" John Denver wrote "Leaving on a Jet Plane" in 1967.The Chad Mitchell Trio recorded it in 1967, as did Spanky & Our Gang and Peter, Paul and Mary (their biggest and final hit).Cheers, JeffAnswerI believe its Jeff Jefferson.
"That Smell" is by Lynyrd Skynyrd, from the album 'Street Survivors,' the last record they released before the infamous plane crash.
I did not find any record of a plane crash on that date.
