Yes. Most rock groups, especially in the 60's and 70's, used drugs. Brian Wilson said they enhanced his creativity, but has also said they damaged his psyche. Many people blame drugs for Wilson's and The Beach Boys' decline, but the reality is that Wilson also suffered from mental problems unrelated to drugs, and that fact, combined with drugs, made him withdraw from the band for years. On the other hand, Beach Boys Al Jardine and Mike Love were against drugs and advocated Transcendental Meditation and a healthy lifestyle. However their musical contributions to the band were nowhere near what Wilson was doing.
Either way, the Beach Boys made some great albums back then! One of my favorites is Sunflower, from 1970.
They briefly went to El camino college although they did not graduate.

The only event worth any major note in 1981 was their participation in the Fourth of July concert in the Nation Mall.
No, they did not. Einstein On The Beach is an opera written by minimalist composer Phillip Glass and directed for the theatre by Robert Wilson (not a Beach Boy). The opera inspired a song by Counting Crows called "Einstein On The Beach (For An Eggman)" which was not written by any of the Beach Boys. Finally, because Albert Einstein died in 1955, six years before the formation of the group, it is not possible that The Beach Boys wrote Einstein while on the beach -- unless they were very young kids sitting in the sand doing a civics or science project.
A lot of people assume The Lion Sleeps Tonight song to have been sung by The Beach Boys which is incorrect. It's actually sung by The Tokens and was a big hit in 1962. The assumption that the Beach Boys sang this song, is encouraged by a number of sites where you can download the Beach Boy's version for your phone, and get a copy of "their" lyrics. However this song is not listed in any list or album as having ever been sung by the Beach Boys. There have been many artists that have sung this song, which was also made popular again in the movie "The Lion King".
Estimates are that The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide -- the exact number awaits further input. The Beach Boys have received 32 RIAA Platinum and Gold record awards ... and still counting. In the field of rock and roll, The Beach Boys have sold more records than any other group from the USA, except for the Four Seasons, who have sold over 175 million records. Internationally, The Beatles and Abba have sold more records. Abba has sold over 360 million records.
