His first wife was Cynthia Powell, a fellow student at the Liverpool College of Art- they met in 1957 when John was a member of his second band 'Johhny and the Moondogs', and married in July 1962 when Cynthia became pregnant. Their son Julian was born on 6th April 1963- he is now 49 years old, and a musician in his own right.
John & Cynthia divorced in 1968 when John began an affair with Japanese artist Yoko Ono- John & Yoko married in Gibraltar in March 1969 and remained together until John's assassination on 8th December 1980. They had difficulty in producing children- Yoko miscarried three times- but finally had a son Sean on 9th October 1975, which was John's 37th birthday. Sean is 37 now, living in the USA, and is also a musician, DJ and actor.
