You can spend a little and get a laminated wood guitar that may be iffy on sound. Or you can spend a little more and get a solid wood guitar that will have a better, stronger sound. If name means more to you than sound, then get one of the composite Martins that have so-so sound. My recommendation is to look around and play different guitars and see what strikes your ear. Don't get hung up on name brands as the only "good" guitars.
