One key helper would to invest in a tuner. If not, locate a nearby piano and tune to an A. Hopefully with good ear you can hear the pitch variations from the D, E, and G strings. You use the little silver knobs closer to the chin rest of the violin for fine tuning. The black knobs at the scroll is for when the string is really out of tune. If this doesn't help, contact your local music store, I'm sure they would be willing to help! :)

Looking down on the violin's strings, with the 4 pegs at the top, going from left to right each string must be tuned to these notes:

G below middle C

D above middle C

A above middle C

E above that A.

They are tuned in fifths. Typically, the A string is tuned to an external sound (the Oboe in most orchestras) and then the other strings are tuned to the interval using the tuned A string as a reference

The main notes are G D A & E

When I learnt the violin I remembered it by Good Dogs All Eat.

But there are many other notes, like F, G, etc.

How do you change pitch on a violen?

There are two ways to change the pitch of the violin: 1. The pegs on the violin can be turned back and forth in order to tune the violin to a specific key. The first string is tuned in G, second - D, third - A, and the fourth - E. Some electric violins come with 5 strings, the fifth coming before G and tuned in the key of C. 2. Below the bridge of the violin rests fine tuning equipment which will make minor adjustments to the pitch.
