Music Theory is the basis behind what you are singing, including the chord progressions and the alternate (non-harmonic tones) that you would include in making music more interesting to listen to. I find that it makes a really big difference to have a knowledge of the chord progressions as I play (I'm a bassoonist and a vocalist) so that I can catch any other parts around me. You become more trained to hear chords and observe scale patterns, and thus is makes you a bit more able to improvise or to play musically.
well, music theory is great to know because it gives you more stability when you sing. it's good to know where you are in a scale, and as you sing you can hear different chords you are singing, and you feel much more familiar with the pitch coming out of your mouth. im a singer, and after taking a few theory classes, i love singing much more. it's much easier when you know exactly what youre doing
When you're given sheet music to a song, it can be very hard to sing it correctly without knowing anything about music theory. If you know what major and minor scales are supposed to sound like and have a good understanding of intervals, it can be a lot easier to understand what you're singing without even listening to it first. There are many ear interval trainers online and wikipedia has good information on major and minor scales
To learn music theory, there are step by step instructions in many music books. Alternatively a good music teacher should be able to explain music theory.
Let me improve this answer. No Michael could not read music but he could certainly make music, as a singer you don't really need to learn how to read music unless you play a instrument aswell. Michael could play the piano and had a ear for music, which then could be played by listening. Michael didn't have to read music he just felt the music and made it happen and it worked.
No, you just have to enjoy the music and be a good singer.

The key principles of music composition and theory that every aspiring musician should understand include melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and texture. Melody refers to the main tune or theme of a piece of music, harmony involves the combination of different notes played together, rhythm is the pattern of beats and accents in music, form is the overall structure of a piece, and texture refers to the layers of sound in a musical composition. Understanding these principles can help musicians create well-structured and engaging music.
