I had the privilege of seeing him perform when he was a young rock and roller, in the mid-1950s. He was dynamic and exciting to watch, plus for a teen female fan like me, he was really cute. It was the early days of rock, and Elvis was the first really big rock star-- young people adored him, while parents thought he was going to ruin society (the way he moved his body to the music while he was singing was very sexual, and many adults considered it immoral). As the years passed, he aged and he gained weight, plus he was taking various kinds of drugs. Later in his career, he transformed himself into sort of a glitzy Las Vegas style entertainer, which was a very different presentation from the youthful rock star he was in his youth. But even in his later years, when he was overweight and somewhat slower on stage, he enjoyed touring, he still put on a dynamic performance, and fans still loved his music.
He performed at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair and Dairy Show.
Carl Perkins wrote and performed it, but it was made famous by Elvis Presley, when he sang it on a tv show. Carl Perkins was told he was copying Elvis if he ever sang it.
Elvis was about ten years ahead of the beatles. Interesting side note. In those days getting to appear on the Ed Sullivan show was a guarantee to launch a career. There was a country singer trying to get national attention that appeared on the Sullivan show the same night Elvis Presley did. Of course Elvis so overshadowed the guy that everyone forgot about him. He kept trying and finally landed a gig on the Sullivan show again. But, as luck would have it, that was the night the Beatles first performed in America. So, once again the guy was out performed and forgotten. I used to know his name but can't remember it anymore.

YES he was. Starting when Elvis finished his commitment to the US Army, Elvis received an honorable discharge after two years of service, he appeared on a TV Special by Timex hosted by Frank Sinatra. The ratings were huge. Elvis then went directly into his movie contractual obligations with the quality of the scripts becoming "less and less" acceptable to Elvis. Fortunately Elvis agreed to return to his roots and surround himself with some trusted band members and completed the "1968 Singer Special entitled "Elvis"". This TV show, which showed of Elvis' vocal range and his on stage presence, was the HIGHEST RATED show of 1968. Elvis then received the highest compensation to appear in Las Vegas for his live shows. All of his live shows SOLD OUT and Elvis ended the 1960's "hotter" than ever. GREAT QUESTION by the way

Elvis made his first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show on September the 9th 1956.
He said that Elvis "wasn't his cup of tea". After the success of Elvis' three appearances on his show (at an at the time staggering $ 50,000 fee) he just called him a nice young man.
The Dorsey Brothers Show. The Milton Berle Show. The Ed Sullivan Show. Welcome Home Elvis Show hosted by Frank Sinatra in 1960 after Elvis' stint in the US Army (i.e. from 1958 through 1960). "Elvis" sponsored by Singer in 1968 otherwise known as; The Comeback Special, the 68 special, Elvis' 1968 special, etc. Elvis' Aloha from Hawaii show in 1973 which was the first TV show broadcast by satellite around the world to an estimated audience of 1 billion people. Elvis' CBS special in 1977 (which was a live concert performance).
Elvis really started to sing at the age of 10 when he peformed at a talent show.
Elvis Presley sang "Old Shep" for his high school talent show, where he performed it with heartfelt emotion. Despite his performance, he did not win the competition; he placed second, losing to a classmate who played the accordion. This early experience, however, marked the beginning of his journey into music and performance.
