Firstly, just to explain about why slaves use Gospel Music. They used it for escaping their captivity and bondage. They used it like codes and subliminal messages so the slave masters would'nt know what they were talking about. How Gospel music affected them? You asked. Well this was the only way they could keep their spirits uplifted because they knew what they were going through and other times they knew that they had no choice but to hold it out and keep on working sun up to sun down until it was right for them or they got fed up.

Gospel music is music that is written to express either personal, spiritual or a communal belief regarding Christian life, as well as (in terms of the varying music styles) to give a Christian alternative to mainstream secular music.

Why did Gospel music originate?

Gospel music originated from a continent rather than a single country. African slaves who were brought to America were forbidden to maintain their culture through playing their musical instruments. To get them through the long, dreary, drudge-filled days working hard out in the fields, they incorporated dance and music from their culture, and their songs focussed on hard work and praising God in the midst of it. This was the origin of Gospel music.
