first try changing the plugs and wires along with the distributor.

I had the same problem, I found i had a blown fuse in the fuse panel. After replacing the fuse, scanner had no problem reading or connecting with the computer on my jeep.
Check the oxygen sensor. My 1995 Grand Cherokee stopped stalling while driving after it was replaced.

I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has ben stalling alot, I checked the usual items and over many weeks the problem continued so to make a very long story short it turned out the problem was. the ignition coil connector (pigtail) with the jeep running check the connector by shaking and moving it, when i did this it died every time, so i went to a local pick-n-pull (junkyard) and cut off a connector from a wrecked jeep went home and spliced it together and it has not stalled yet (a week now) and the best part was the part was $3.47
