Its a tough job. You have to remove the dash panel, including the steering wheel and steering column and then remove the plenum box which involve evacuating the refrigerant system and draining the radiator. Once you get the heater box out, replacing the heater core will take about 10min and then you have to put it all back together and recharge the AC and fill the radiator.
If you are seeing leak problems with the system, you will have to go through this process. If the problem is lack of heat and/or AC control, the problem is more likely the blend door. This is a common fail on the Cherokee. You can get diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix on the HeaterTreater web site. The only ways to tow a 2wd is remove the drive shaft or put on a trailer.
In line on the heater hoses on the passenger side of the engine. Has a small vacuum line to it and both heater hoses go through it. The heater hoses are smaller than the radiator hoses and go through the firwall.
Time for an oil change.

in my 2001 4L jeep grand Cherokee the automatic shut down relay is located in the power distribution panel that is mounted between the fender and the battery. if it is labeled like mine it should be number 38 marked asd.

you need to replace your heater core take the heater hoses off and lope them with a piece of tubing and drive you will see what i mean
