It's a 30 dollar part. The unit should be located near the filter. Unplug/Unscrew the old one and insert new and plug in.
There is more than one sending unit, such as engine oil pressure sending unit, engine temperature sending unit and fuel gauge sending unit to name a few. Need more info.

Bad sending unit in tank.
If the oil sending unit is leaking oil by the inside of the component, then I don't know of any way to fix that other than removal and replace with another one. If it is leaking by the threads, then you can try teflon tape to seal that. Also make sure it is leaking from the sending unit and not leaking down from the valve cover.
I have found though my experiences that 99% of the time the fuel gauge sending unit in the tank has failed.
Perhaps worn engine bearings due to excessive mileage or lack of regular maintenance
Hi, I was looking for the same information and found a great site with (what I think is) the answer. the fuel sending unit is part of the fuel pump module, and it's inside the fuel tank. hope this helps! you can also try searching 937J Secc 14 Fuel System, that's where I found it :)

The AC compressor on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee can be repaired by purchasing a new unit or by sending the existing unit off for repairs. These are sealed units which do not have user serviceable parts beyond the outer seals.

On the 4.7 V8 it is above the oil filter, you'll see the wires going to it.I checked and it is a 1 1/16" deep socket for the sending unit.
4.0L, next to the oil filter. 5.2L, back of the engine, next to the distributor.
right where the oil filter is, its that wire that gives you trouble when you try to replace the filter.
