Since R2R tape decks are analog devices, *download* which usually refers to digital data is probably not the best choice of words. *Record* would be more applicable.

To record CD music on R2R tape, for best results you will need a CD player with Line Out connectors, and a tape deck with Line In connectors. The connectors are typically RCA coaxial connectors, and there should be two such connectors on both ends; one for the Left channel (black) and one for the Right channel (red). Use an audio cable with one each red and black RCA connector on both ends, or two separate cables with only one connector on each end. In either case, connect Left Line Out on the CD player to Left Line in on the tape deck. Do likewise with the Right channel connectors.

Load the CD and tape reals, and start recording. There are probably input level meters and knobs to adjust the input level on the tape deck. Adjust them such that the needle on both meters (left and right) comes as close as possible to the red area on the gauge, without actually going into the read. Rewind the tape, stop the CD, restart recording, restart CD playing. When the end of the CD is reached, stop recording.

Note that if Line connectors are not available on either the CD player or tape deck, Speaker/Headphone connectors can be used instead of Line Out, and/or Microphone connectors instead of Line In. BUT sound quality will be drastically reduced because of impedance mismatching, unless appropriate adaptors are used (available at Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.). There are too many possible combinations of Line/Mic/Speaker connectors to deal with here, so tell the store personnel what kind of connectors you have on both ends, and hopefully they will sell you the correct adaptors. Playing with volume and Mic level controls can also help improve quality when Line connectors are not used.

Who and when was the cassette player invented by?

A cassette deck is a type of tape recorder for playing or recording audio compact cassettes. A deck was formerly distinguished from a recorder as being part of a stereo component system, while a recorder had a self-contained power amplifier (and often speakers). The cassette recorder was introduced by the Philips Corporation in 1963 and marketed in 1965 as a device for vocal dictation designed for portable use. It was not intended to be a replacement for reel-to-reel recorders. It enclosed both reels of the recording tape in a small case which eliminated the need to thread the tape through individual reels.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_player

What are the knobs with pins on the back of my reel to reel tape recorder?

The knobs with pins on the back of your reel-to-reel tape recorder are likely for setting the tape tension and alignment. They help ensure that the tape runs smoothly and maintains proper contact with the playback and recording heads. Adjusting these knobs can help prevent tape slippage, improve sound quality, and extend the life of the tape. Always refer to your specific model's manual for precise adjustments and settings.
