You can 'download' music into your iPod from iTunes on the computer, and 'download' music from the iTunes Music Store into your computer, and that goes into the iTunes application. The Internet download time itself is part of your Internet costs. The music you download is usually not free but iTunes Music Store, does have free media.
The 'Single of the Week' is the free song of the week. There is at least one free song, and sometimes more. The 'Single of the Week' is listed right after the 'Music' part of the iTunes Music Store main window.
More free media is listed on the iTunes Music Store in the 5th part of the window.
It says "Free On iTunes." Next to that is "See All." Click 'See All' and a window will open with free music, videos, movies and movie clips, and TV shows.
It might say Free, Free Episode, Free HD Episode, Subscribe Free, or something.
You can also preview what is of interest and then decide to download it or not.
Also in the iTunes Music Store are hundreds of free Podcasts and Lectures.
