This is the opposite of the most common fail mode for the GC. Usually the problem is no heat. However, the switch between heat and AC is controlled by the blend doors and they can break and fall into the wrong place blocking AC. More information is needed. Well, I can't solve the problem but my '98 Grand Ltd has also begun blowing hot air only. It does it on any heater setting, hot or cold, and the a/c running makes no difference--still hot only.It is as if the system has locked up somehow. In an old manually operated heater it would be a fault with the hot water valve sticking and not closing off. From reading on this site it seems that it may be related to the air blend door sticking.Allowing hot air only---and costing around $850 to repair. There must be a better way !
with any no heat complaint the first thing to check is going to be the coolant level. then make sure the vehicle is reaching proper operating temperature and that the thermostat is not stuck open or anything. from there check and see if both of the heater hoses are getting hot, those are the coolant hoses going into the firewall towards the passenger side of the vehicle. if one is hot and the other is cold that means you have a restricted heater core. you can try to backflush the heater core by taking a garden hose and connecting through the outlet side of the heater core and spraying out the inlet side. if that does not work you will have to replace the heater core. hope that helps.
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that was doing the same thing. The problem was a faulty ac/heater switch. You put the switch on ac, compresser engages, lines get cold and frosty, but only hot air is coming out of the vents, because the switch has changed back to heater even though it shows ac. The cure is to have the center panel which contains the ac/heater switch, fan speed switch and temperature control replaced.
If it has a 3 prong AC (120 volt) plug on the end of the cord, simply plug it in to a good AC source. Since the block heater is a heating element that is located in the coolant in the engine block it draws some current; the amount depends on the size of the heater element. You should only need it in very cold weather ie. below 20deg.F .
Hi im Mike from Mn, I also have a 2000 jeep grand Cherokee with front brakes that are partially engaged so that they heat up. I got them to release after pulling the fuse and relay for the ABS IN THE FUSE BOX under the hood. The brakes work ok now and have not stuck back on but the ABS system is no longer working. I went to the Jeep dealer and they said they had never heard of this problem before. They said if I can make it happen again they may be able to figure it out. Any info you have about this problem would be greatly appreciated Mike
Because your thermostat is probably stuck open
the thermostat may be stuck open or the heater core may be plugged the thermostat may be stuck open or the heater core may be plugged
If you have no heat in your 02 grand Cherokee limited blower works heater lines are hot good circulation just no heat comes out?Maybe blocked heater core. Also check thermostat.Your problem is with the blend doors in the GC. Check the HeaterTreater eBay listings for diagnostic information and a fix.
Is the fan stuck on or is it just hot air even with the a/c on???
The HeaterTreater is an after market kit that solves heater and AC blend door malfunctions for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Laredo. It is much cheaper than the dealership fix and is easy to install. For diagnosis and info, check out www.heatertreater.net or search eBay for "heatertreater".
I would have to assume that you need to replace your thermostat. If the temp. gauge isn't getting very hot (around 190 degrees) after the vehicle has been runing for an extended period of time the thermostat is probably stuck open.
Most likely a broken blend door. Check heatertreater.net for diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix.
Need more info like, is the blower working or not, is the air coming out cold or warm when it should be hot, is the air not coming out where it should be.
The blend door could be sticking on the truck. The vacuum system could have a leak. Or the cables to the heat valve could be malfunctioning. Check these three areas to fine why your heater is stuck on hot.
The heater box has controlled doors to direct the hot air. When one of the doors is stuck closed, hot air cannot go in that direction. The passenger side vent door must be closed.
The thermostat is probably stuck in the open position.
The heater would not be working on a 1990 Dodge Grand Caravan if the heater core is damaged or blocked. Hot coolant from the engine must flow through the core to allow hot air to pass into the cabin.
