Put three fingers down. To be specific on the fingering, the keys you press are on the top of your sax:
the pointer finger goes on the 2nd key,
your middle finger goes on the 4th key, and finally
your ring finger goes on the 5th key.
alto saxophone
The alto saxophone is a transposing instrument that plays in the E♭ clef. When reading music, the alto saxophone sounds a major sixth lower than written. Therefore, music for the alto saxophone is typically notated in the treble clef, which is standard for many woodwind instruments.

You should play the either the alto saxophone or the tenor saxophone. The alto is a good size and most 6th graders play this type. The tenor is a little bigger, but not beyond reason. It is less common but just as easy to play.
better to start on alto.
