An E Flat on the Saxophone is played Just like a D Sharp; I always had trouble with this one with my audition pieces.
Its your first 6 fingers (pointer, middle and ring, on both hands)...
Then with your pinky, play the Top of the two buttons on your Right hand; Octave is optional.
By practicing. If you want to know the notes that are in each scale, take the major scale that starts on the same note and lower the 3rd and 6th notes by a half step. For example, to play Ab minor:
Ab major: Ab Bb C Db Eb F G Ab
now lower 3 and 6
Ab minor: Ab Bb Cb Db Eb Fb G Ab
(Cb=B and Fb=E) These instructions are for the harmonic minor scale, for the natural minor scale, you need to lower the 7th note, too (G->Gb).
To play a scale of Bb on an Alto Saxophone, you must first know whether the Bb is the "concert pitch" (playing the scale with a band or orchestra), or whether you want to play the Bb scale of your solo instrument. Normally, the Bb scale includes the notes: Bb-C-D-Eb-F-G-A-Bb, and those are the notes you would typically play to perform the Bb scale on your instrument. However, since the Alto Saxophone is pitched in Eb, you need to "transpose" these notes in order to play a Bb scale in concert pitch with other musicians. On the Alto Saxophone, transposition yields the G scale, or the notes: G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G.
If you know the major scale, you can easily learn the minor scales. For the natural minor, lower the third, sixth, and seventh of the major scale a half step. For harmonic minor, lower the third and the sixth. For melodic minor, lower the third on the way up the scale, and play the natural minor on the way down. Another way to look at the melodic minor is to raise the 6th and 7th of the natural minor scale on the way up, and play them lowered again on the way down.
