How do you play the bugle?

Bugle playing is quite difficult but this is how you do it: you have to vibrate your lips together (it might sting) while your mouth is on the mouth piece. If it is hard too to understand, this might need to be answered again.

Bugles have no valves, and as such can only play in one key. To duplicate the effect on a Trombone, pick one slide position and leave it there. Note: most bugles play in the key of G, which translates to 4th position.

The bugle is actually a really cool instrument, very closely related to the Trumpet. There are no valves on the bugle to change the length of the tubing, though...so there are only select notes that the bugle can produce. Thankfully there are composers out there who have used these notes to compose tunes like "Taps" and "Reveilee". The player's embouchure changes the pitch, so if the players lips are tighter the pitch gets higher (or the tone lowers if the lips become relaxed). Hope this helps!
