You slide it on from the behind. The easiest way is to sit down, put the violin between your thighs to keep it from moving, then slide on the shoulder rest and VOILA! Shoulder rest is on:) Remember to make sure that the wider side is on the right.

∙ 11y agoI Know it sounds bad but when i didnt have a proper rest i used a sponge so take a rubber band. Put the sponge where your shoulder is a sort of stretch the rubber band around the shoulder part and the sponge will stay in place.

∙ 15y agoput the rubberband under the chin rest. then put sponge under the violin reach for a section of the rubber band. Then put tha t over the sponge then hook it to a corner of the violin.
