How do you put guitar straps on?

there should be two small buttons or "knobs" on your guitar. One on the body of the guitar near the neck and one at the bottom of the body. On the guitar strap you should find a small slits in the leather on each end where you push the button on your guitar through, much like a button on your shirt. If you do not already have two buttons on your guitar, you can bring it into a musical instrument shop and they'll install one on your guitar for a small price.

There are two steps (after going to the music store and purchasing the required components.)

1. On the "bottom" of the guitar there is a button or peg. It is threaded (screwed) into the body. Remove this with a counter-clockwise twisting motion. Replace with a "strap" peg (one of the two you already purchased.) You will most likely use a #2 Phillips screwdriver for this.

2. Drill a hole in the base of the neck -- typically on the side facing away from you as you hold the guitar in a playing position. The hole should be 3/32" in diameter and 3/8" - 1/2" deep. Screw in the other "strap" peg.

Your strap should have a hole at each end. One of these is hooked onto a protrusion at the base of the body of the guitar called a straplock - from the side it looks a bit like =), and should be visible when looking at the guitar from above. The other hooks onto another identical straplock either on the other side of the body that is visible from above, or behind the body where the neck meets the body.

One can attach an acoustic guitar strap by simply putting the pinhole of one end of the strap through the pin and the other end of the strap on the other pin. The strap can then be adjusted to fit one's needs.

Since an acoustic guitar has only one button on the back side but none on the front side, one will need a piece of string to attach the strap. First, put the string through the hole on the strap and tie it in a knot. Then, put the string through the headstock of the guitar and tie it in a knot. Finally, attach the strap to the button on the back of the guitar.

you take the slit at the end of the strap and slide it over the knob on the end of the body, or use Duct Tape if the first method fails.
