Mellophonist
A mellophone is an alternative instrument to a french horn used in drum and bugle corps that has 3 valves. They are used mainly because they have bells that are facing forward as opposed to the back or side, like a french horn. They can be in the key of B flat or F and, because they are very loud, are almost exclusively reserved for outdoor settings. They are considered "middle brass" because they are not as high as trumpets or low as tubas.
Trombone, Trumpet, Baritone, Mellophone and Suzaphone.
The mellophone is typically played in the key of F.
