In all cases of removing a starter motor disconnect the battery negative terminal, then take the old starter motor off and bolt the new one on.
Then reconnect the battery negative terminal.

Your tach wire color is Gray. And it's located at Coil on passenger side of the engine. This goes for 1997 through 2001.
