I do not beleive your Jeep uses bulbs in the console.
I have a 2000 grand cherokee and it uses a light strip that is part of the console and can only be replaced with the shifter assembly.......
I plan to cut the wires from the light strip and install a pep boys console light that uses replacable bulbs....probably will just lay it in there as long as it is protected and safe...
Good luck
You didn't specify which model. In a Grand Cherokee it's under the center console behind the shift lever(s).
if it is loose under the console storage, it is probably the bracket under the storage bin. Remove the two screws holding the lid and the two screws by the latch hole and the two screws on the bottom to remove the inside of the storage area. Once you get it out you might see that the bracket that the screws on the bottom of the storage bin go into is broken. You can get a replacement bracket for about $80.00. You have to remove the console to replace.
The center console will more than likely fit. However, i believe the door panels will be different. the switches have different wiring and buttons may be slightly off. grand Cherokees switched the interior styling in 96. it is hit or miss, but most things are compatible.
I have a 99 wrangler and have had problems with the wires shorting out or corroding under the box. I had to remove the box and replace some wires, the fuses in the box did not blow.

Always consult the vehicle’s service manual for specific instructions and safety precautions.

Always consult a repair manual for detailed steps specific to your vehicle.

The horn relay for a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Laredo is typically located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC), which is found under the hood near the battery. You can access the PDC by removing the cover, and the horn relay is usually labeled on the underside of the cover or in the owner's manual. It's a small rectangular relay, and you may need to replace it if the horn is not functioning properly.

Next, locate the bulb sockets and twist them counterclockwise to release. Replace the old bulbs with new ones, ensuring they are the correct type, and reassemble the console by reversing the disassembly steps. Finally, test the lights to ensure they are functioning properly.
