How do you replace the radio antenna on a 1995 jetta?

To replace the radio antenna on the 1990 Jetta you simply unscrew it (counter-clockwise) and screw the new one clock-wise.

If you are replacing antenna with off the shelf product

You will probably have to remove the wheel, wheel well fender protector, to have access to the bolt for the antenna

it's fairly simple. i did it myself since the dealers wanted too much money to do it. it took approximately 5-20 minutes. i bought my antenna on the internet for about $50. it is bolted down underneath the roof of the car. so you have to remove a portion of the liner to do it. i removed the left rear passenger hand bar with a Phillips head screw driver. you can pop loose a panel that runs from the rear window toward the lining. you can then pull down that corner of the roof lining allowing you access to the bolt. you can use channel locks to remove the bolt. the antenna can be unplugged. bolt down and plug in your new antenna. replace the lining, pop the panel back in, and screw the hand bar back in. the dealer wanted $300 to do it and i had the antenna. they just needed to install. that angers me.

-- I used these instructions, and this is basically all you need to do. Personally, I found the project a bit more involved, mostly in the reassembly stage. It was difficult to get the headliner back in position over the rear window. I ended up fashioning a tool out of a thin piece of metal to get it all back into place. Overall, about 1 hour for me.

Also, I would note, at least with my car, the Rear-right would have been the better side to work from. That was the side my antenna plug was. The left side worked, just had to reach across.

you have to remove all of the upper interior paneling; the headliner comes down and there is your antenna. loosen the one nut, disconnect the wire from the back of the radio and pull it out. reverse your steps for installation of the new antenna. it took me about 45 minutes.

the actual antenna mast can be accessed from underneath the driver-side fender flare. Hope that gets you on your way!

Buy an aftermarket radio kit or find a factory one on Ebay but make sure you have the security code otherwise the radio will not work.

22 mm socket and careful prying down of interior panels till u get enough clearance to access the bolt, the unbolt it and pull/wiggle it out
