Well, I am a singer so I think I can help you on this one. Maybe you could join a choir first. It always helps nerves to know that there are other people with you. Try for a few solo's and see what happens. If the problem is that you don't know if you can sing well or not ask someone close to you that you trust to tell you the truth no matter what. Preferrably ask someone with an ear for music. The best advise I can really give you is to believe in yourself. Remember if your performing in front of a crowd you may not see these people ever again so it doesn't really matter if you mess up. And if you do mess up, it's ok. that's life, we make mistakes we learn from them, even in music. BTW the whole picturing people in their underwear thing doesn't work it will either gross you out or make you laugh which neither one is good for someone trying to sing. Good luck! and Keep singing!
Smile to yourself before you go on stage. I was lead in a play, and I know it`s hard. Pretend you are singing in your room. Remember that you are a GREAT singer, and you CAN do it! Don`t be stiff, just relax, and act as if those people are not there! :) Hope I helped.
Well......
First think that you are in the shower or in the bathroom singing while doing your hair and your confidence level will boost a little.
Second, I always just ignored the audience when i had my first choir concert actually last night. Yes it was tempting to look at the audience but just look at the director and you'll be fine.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
You just need to take a deep breath and forget about all of your fears. If you are religious you can say a prayer to your God to help you calm down. Before performing, practice so you are very familiar with whatever you are doing.
Think of how proud they will be of you
or pretend their one of your friends that your not afariad of singing for

Your family members probably ask you to sing for them because you have a pretty voice. Yes. It makes you nervous. Of course it makes you nervous. Still, you are nervous in front of a group of people who love you. These people accept you. This is where it will not cost you if you make a mistake. This is where you can get used to standing up and singing in front of people. Unlike school, you are not doing this for a grade. Here it is alright to mess up. That is why they want you to practice doing it in front of them.
no i cant go sing for your family
nervous, stage fright, scared
You need to find the place in your mind where you can be at the same time you have to sing in front of other people. For example - if you're comfortable singing in front of your choir teacher, then in your mind, imagine everyone in the audience is a clone of your choir teacher - and just sing to her. Performance anxiety is worse when you're not prepared and you know it. If you practice and are very comfortable with the material, then this feeling will lessen. Also, if you sing in front of people (force yourself to do it over and over) you'll eventually get over being nervous - it just happens over time. Good Luck, And Have fun singing! Grace Summers <3
