Traditionally, a guitar battle or a guitar duel is a competition between two Guitarists in an attempt to see who is the more skilled musician. Often in a full-band jam, one guitarist will play a phrase, followed by the second guitarist repeating it and maybe adding his or her own style to it. The phrases gradually become more complex, with each guitarist trying to out-do the other's most recent phrase. When one guitarist cannot at least repeat the other's phrase, you have the winner of the duel.
