It's a matter of how it looks to you. Normally, pair of eighths are "tied" together with a bracket, but putting 4 together is not strange either. You can even tie 3 if you need an eighth rest, and you can put the bar going over top of the rest.

The standard rule for tying eighth notes is in pairs "within a beat", so you would tie one_and two_and three_and four_and, but you wouldn't tie one and_two and three_and four and_. Eight notes are not put together across bar lines either, they are written as separate eighth notes.

What does a two eighth note look like?

A eighth note looks like a quarter note with a flag on it, to double it you would put a dot beside it.

What 4 notes equal a semi breve?

Well a semibreve is a whole note which is 4 beats. There are different combinations of notes that equal 4 beats. For example, 4 quarter notes, 2 half notes, a dotted half note and a quarter note, 16 sixteenth notes, 8 eighth notes. These different types of notes can be put together to equal 4 beats or a semibreve.

How can you rewrite 4 quarter notes?

Four quarter notes is equal to one whole note (the empty note head with no stem). One whole note is held for four beats. Four quarter noes is also equal to two half notes (the empty note head with a stem). Each half note is equal to two quarter notes. To put it another way: one half note is worth twice the value of a quarter note. Four quarter notes is also equal to eight eighth notes (the filled note heads with flags). Each eighth note is worth half of the value of one quarter note. Four quarter notes is also equal to sixteen sixteenth notes (filled note heads with two flags). Each sixteenth note is worth half of the value of the eighth note or one fourth of one quarter note. Those are the most common divisions of four quarter notes. You can also mix and match those divisions; for example, four quarter notes takes up the same amount of time as one half note plus one quarter note plus two eighth notes. There are hundreds of thousands of configurations that could rewrite the value of those four quarter notes, which is just one reason why there is so much variation in the types of music it is possible to write!

How many beats does 2 quarter notes get that are connected?

In music, two quarter notes tied together get the same amount of beats as a half note: two beats. If one quarter note is one beat, and you put together two, you get two beats. Remember, one sixteenth plus one sixteenth equals one eighth. One eighth plus one eighth equals one quarter. One quarter plus one quarter equals one half. One half plus one half equals a whole. The same goes for rests, and later on you will probably get some thirty-second notes or sixty-fourth notes. You just go the opposite direction: two sixty-fourth notes equal a thirty-second note. Two thirty-second notes equal a sixteenth note. And then you go to eighths, quarters, halves, and wholes. I hope this helps!

How many beats is in a eighth note?

In 4/4 time there are eight 1/8 notes per measue (two per beat). Divide four by eight and one finds that there are 0.5 or 1/2 beats per 1/8 note. Hope this helps. It's 1\2 of a beat. So basically half of a quarter note. A technique you can use is taking a small sniff. That will be at least half of a quarter note.

What is the word for the numbers at the beginning which tell you how many beats are in each bar?

The top number represents the number of beats in a bar in the piece. The bottom number represents the kind of note gets one beat. If the bottom number is 4, it is a quarter note. If it is an 8, it is an eighth note. just put one over the number and that is it. 4 for the top note and 4 for the bottom means that there are four quarter notes in a measure. 12 on the top and 8 on the bottom means there are 12 eighth notes in the bar. Hope that helps. :)P.S. These numbers are called the "Time Signature"
