we have a number of methods, nuclear type technology where a reaction creates heat which is transferred to a gas coolant and then to a water bolier system, which makes steam and this drives a high speed turbine.

..

there are still some coal fired stations operating .

.

there are some small er type gas turbines .

,

and there are some water powered methods .

one example is a large reservoir of water is allowed to drain at short notice,

and the resultant revolution of a turbine blade creates electricity .

later the water is pumped back up to the lake reservoir using cheaper electricity.

..

there are other methods being devised of course .

with the encouragement to find alternative methods, wind driven turbine

blades are used , but some say this is an eyesore on the landscape .

however there are already a large number of these being utilised already

....

other methods on the drawing board are wave powered and tidal - under research.

nuclear power is still a favourable option though because it releases a

much lesser amount of co2 gas to the environment when compared to other methods of production
