Ukuleles were made as many similar instruments have been made for hundreds and even thousands of years. The biggest difference between the various instruments is the size and materials, with a few variations in shape. The basic parts are a body, which can be just about any shape, from round to square, triangular, figure eight and pineapple. The neck is attached to the body and contains the frets. The strings run from the head at the end of the neck to the bridge which is fastened to the face of the body. The length of the strings has the biggest affect on the notes of the sound produced while the body creates the loudness and harmonics.
