The life span of a Trumpet depends on how well it's cared for. A trumpet that is abused constantly will not last very long, 5-10 years at most. A trumpet that is cleaned ocassionally will last longer, probably 20-30 years. If it's really well cared for (i.e. cleaned often, well lubricated, and you don't play it after eating or drinking), it can last for a very long time. I've seen trumpets as old as 50 years still in good playable condition.

A B-flat trumpet is probably 16 or 18 inches long, but they vary slightly depending on the model. However, the "unrolled" length of the tubing is several feet.

Anyone can benefit by playing the trumpet, as long as you learn the notes and fingerings. I play the trumpet myself for about a year and it has opened many doors of opportunity.

You have probably heard somebody talk about the "last trump"? It means a trumpet. A loud trumpet is blown to herald the return of Christ.
The long trumpet often depicted in religious paintings is called a "trompet." It is typically shown being played by angels to herald significant events, such as the announcement of the birth of Christ or the Last Judgment.
