You will not get callouses on your fingers until you play to the point they are sore. When they are sore, play anyway. After a week or so, they will have calouses. The longer you play per day, the thicker the calouses become.
Yes, playing guitar builds muscle in your fingers. Guitarists have excellent grip strenght in their freting hand. If you play in a standing position with a slung low guitar then you also strenghten your upper arms.
if your fingers hurt when you play guitar, it's probably like your first couple of months playing. your fingers get sore the same way your feet would get sore if youplayed soccer barefoot for the first time. the pain will go away, you just need to build up callauses in your fingertips. dont stop playing though or they'll hurt the same way when you start again its perfectly normal all guitarists have gone through this

It's actually quite simple, but you have to build calluses on your fingers before you play (meaning that a thick layer of skin grows on the tips of your finger). A good guitar to start out with is a classical guitar, then go onto a Fender guitar. And if you're really good, you can go onto a Martin Guitar (the top rated acoustic guitar company).

Only Gretsch can build a Gretsch guitar. You might want to build a copy of a Gretsch guitar. There are quite a few different models, most of which are acoustic or semi-hollow bodied. To make a hollow-body guitar requires a lot of craftmanship. You might want to start out building a solid body guitar, which is much easier, but you will get familiar with some of the woodworking techniques used in more advance guitar making. If you start with a solid body guitar, you are pretty sure to finish up with a good playable guitar, which will help motivate you to continue improving.
