Avenged Sevenfold has had four bassists:
Avenged Sevenfold never stated why they went through so many bass players, so the fans just assume that most of them didn't work out.

No, Johnny never wrote any full length song for Avenged Sevenfold. It is very likely, however, that he wrote the bass parts for most of the songs. Please note that Johnny wasn't in Avenged Sevenfold from the start, so some of the bass parts were written by Daemon Ash, A7X's bass player before Johnny joined.
He is the bass player, and backing vocals when needed.
Growling Crisp Vocals; blistering guitar solos; heavy double kick bass drums, and a simple but very difficult bass riff:)
His real name is Jonathan Steward, and his stage name is Johnny Christ.
He prefer playing bass, although he does actually sing in the songs "Victim" and "Almost Easy." Also, when they play "Not Ready to Die" live, he does the screaming parts.
No, he does not.
No. I do believe it is just double bass. The Rev was crazy over double bass.

Because he is the bass player for Avenged Sevenfold. Without Johnny, the band wouldn't be complete.
First they start with Riffs (guitar then bass) then drums then vocals
