Trumpet TypesSome different kinds of trumpet types include:
  • Standard valved trumpet
  • Herald trumpet
  • Keyed or rotary valved trumpet
  • Natural trumpet

Many types of trumpets exist, and most of these are made with both piston and rotary valves.

  • Bb trumpet
  • C trumpet
  • D trumpet
  • Eb trumpet (sometimes a convertible D trumpet)
  • G trumpet (not very common, also called soprano trumpet)
  • Piccolo Trumpet (keyed in A or Bb, and in the case of Bb sounds a full octave above a normal Bb trumpet)

There are some other types of horns that are either not classified as trumpets or are extremely uncommon:

  • Cornets
  • Flugelhorns
  • Bugles
  • Slide Trumpet/soprano Trombone (A trumpet that has a single slide instead of valves)
  • Bass Trumpet (A trumpet that sounds in the trombone register)
  • Pocket Trumpet (A trumpet in the key of Bb with highly coiled tubing that causes it to be approximately half the size of a regular Bb trumpet)
  • The Shewhorn (Bobby shew's modified two-bell trumpet)
  • The four-valve quarter tone trumpet
  • The Monette Prana Flumpet

-A

-B flat (standard)

-C (also very common)

-D (many Baroque scores written in D)

-E flat

-F (Mahler writes a lot for those!)

-I think there are G trumpets out there.

-B flat or A piccolo trumpets (Used for clarino (extremely high) playing)

-Pocket trumpets

-Herald trumpets

-Keyed bugles

-Baroque trumpets

-Corni di caccia

-Slide trumpets

There are probably many more out there....:D
