D16a in 1999 civic ex no spark but gas?

Check the coil and the ignitor inside of the distributor. I just went through the same problem this past weekend. I had no spark after doing a full tune up just after i had it idleing to flush the motor. Ended up the coil had shorted out and I had to go get a replacement at Checkers. My civic started right up after I replaced it.

How can you make a d15z4 a vtech?

Swap engines.Answergood suggetion but i think he was looking for something more intellegent like: remove your old d15z4 motor and buy a zc sohc v-tec make shure it's a v-tech because they also make a crx motor called a zc and that is a dohc non vtec i think it is a d16a pop that in remap your original ecu and get your self a vtec controller sorted with the right headers, pipes and induction (as well as correct tuning ) you'll be making the same power as a B16a not bad for a couple of grand AnswerVtec is a feature built into the head of a Honda engine. It varies valve timing based on engine speed. unfortunatly your d15 head does not have this feature. Nor does your block have the oil passages needed to feed the system. The best way is to swap your engine for a D16Z6 or D16Y8. Do not get the non-vtec D16Z7 or D16Y7. If you're not sure wether the engine has vtec, look for the vtec solenoid located on the back of the head. The valve cover on my engine does not say vtec but indeed does have it. You will also need a vtec ecu. The P28 is the best for tuning reasons. I swapped my lazy D15 in my 91 hatchback for a D16Z6 from a 92 civic ex. I am not going to lie. I will probably never do a swap this intensive again. The wiring is a pain and took me two weeks to complete. I used a P28 ecu from the 92 to 95 civics. GET THE WIRING DIAGRAMS FOR BOTH CARS! You have to marry the two harnesses together. You have to figure out how to get the speed sensor in your car (Some civics have them in the trans, others in the speedometer) to talk to the ecu. I also used some instructions I read in Honda Tuning magazine. They have a web site. If you have never done an engine swap, get professional help if you can. Talk to the mechanics at your local Honda dealership, because some are quite helpful.
