It worth as much as some one is willing to pay for it. I have two, I paid $100 for one and $60 for a Highly modified one. Americans just don't know what to do with them so they try and make Guitars out of them. Both were modified.
You can buy a brand new unmolested one for about $250 from a warehouse in LA.
They were not meant to be expensive. They were meant to be a Turkish folk instrument for the everyday citizen but now days mostly Gypsies play them.
There are only about 3000 made a year but that doesn't mean they go for big bucks. Very few know what to do with it in America and consider it more of a novelty item.

yes, very much because of the tuning. still if you learnt one the second would be easier A banjo has 4 string were as a guitar has 6 string and some can have more. also they sound different a banjo sound kinda folky and a guitar sounds happier. They are also tuned in different ways
