You'll be able to get a sound out of it for practice, but the tone probably won't be very good. The size of the speaker cone required to produce the bass (12") means it won't really be responsive enough to deal with the higher note on the guitar successfully.I don't THINK it'll damage guitar or amp. It shouldn't damage your bass amp, but if you use a bass with a guitar amp it will pretty much destroy the amp.
The Fender cabinet labeled "29X39" and marked "VT Bassman 15" is typically associated with the Fender Bassman amplifier, specifically the Bassman 100 or similar models that were designed to pair with this type of cabinet. The serial number 14486 indicates that it is an older model, likely from the late 1960s or early 1970s. This cabinet is designed to complement the Bassman amp's output, providing a robust sound for bass guitar.
Well I am not positive on what Laney Amps sound like, or what amp you are talking about by Laney b/c they have a lot. But in general this is what you want: The entire album American Idiot has a pretty consistent guitar tone, and this is a good way to replicate it. They just take a huge stack, crank it up full throttle, and stick a mic in front of it. Once again, I don't know what amp you have so I can't get too detailed, but here's a pretty universal description. Set the Dist from a 4-7 range. Set the Treble from a 2-4 range. Set the bass to like 5-7. Set the mid to 10. Turn it up loud. You may need to adjust it a little in order to perfect it, but that's a pretty general Green Day setting.
