Death metal formed out of the heavy metal genre in the middle of 1980. Many early death metal bands like Savatage, Xecutioner, Death, Possessed, Morbid Angel and Master were crafting the death metal sound up until 1983 when Savatage released the first Death Metal album: Sirens.
