I struggled for months trying to figure mine out only to find a Mercedes mechanic who did the rewiring and install of a new dash mount GPS/USB/Mp3/DVD player device beautifully for $40 labor. Sometimes you need to choose your battles. The stereo was well worth taking it to the shop for :)

It is possible that you connected the power wire for the harness to the computer power. It was like that in my truck when someone did an at home addition of a wiring harness for the new head and changer. Check your wiring.

Had a similar problem while installing an engine I didn't remove. Go to the junk yard and take lots of pictures.
