Rock and roll was the music preferred by the young people, and in the 1950s, it was a sign that society was changing. In fact, Rock Music was a major example of that generational change: its popularity showed that young people were rejecting the music their parents liked (big band music), and choosing music that spoke to their own interests and needs. Also, rock music brought black teens and white teens together, and at a time when America was still segregated, this became controversial. In addition, rock music encouraged a very different kind of dancing, which involved moving one's body in a way that older people found too sexual, compared to the kind of dancing that was popular in the 1930s and 1940s.
So, liking rock music (and its sister genre, rhythm & blues) was a way for teens to show they were rebelling against their parents' preferences. Thanks to the popularity of rock music, teens became an important demographic group: they bought lots of records, they watched TV programs and listened to radio stations that played their favorite songs or featured their favorite performers, and commercial advertisers began to cater to the younger audience as a result.
At the time just before rock and roll was created, there was only one kind of popular genre of music around. Therefore all generations listened and had the same taste in music. However once rock and roll was introduced, it appealed more to teenagers and young adults. This created a generation divide, over the taste of music.
As you probably realise different genres today even, still divide people and ditate and influence them over different stereotypical things for example... someone who listens to 'hip hop' wears a hoodie, where as someone who listens to rock music wears converse and skinny jeans.
This has a similar effect to the different generation as they began to see teenagers acting very differntly to how they act and acted when they were their age. They started going out more and doing other things which were not inkeeping with 'traditional family values and morals' at the time.

Rock may have had some aspects come from Jazz, but it hasn't turned "into" rock persay. Jazz music is very different from the Rock genre in many ways. If rock was developed from any genre, it would be more closely due to blues, country, and gospel. Hope this helps.
Rock musicians moved away from the pop format and big band swing type era music that was typical before world war 2. They combined r&b and country to form what is now known as rock n roll. Beat poets took off the wall subjects and bongo drums to express their poetry other than the typical form that had existed for centuries. They later became known as beatniks, fore runner of the hippies. Both were similar that they were both outcasts from typical conventions and styles. However rock n roll musicians of the 50`s were more in line with the mainstream world at that time other than their music. They still dressed nice and were clean cut.The beat poets on the other hand had a more anything goes attitude and some grew beards and kept quite unkempt appearances.
