The formulation for the tape is the same. Reel to reel tape may actually have 8 tracks on it, although it usually has 4. There are many different magnetic coating formulations for magnetic tape, so it is important to use the type designated for your machine. Some more advanced reel players can change their bias and equalization to accommodate different tape types.

What was used to listen to music during the 1970's?

Music was heard during the 70s using several mediums. The first that comes to mind is the two or three speed phonogragh or HiFi. The speeds were 45rpm, 33 1/3rpm and the third speed was 78rpm which was on its way out. The first two were the most popular. A send method of listening was an AM/FM radio, either mono or stereo. The third method was a reel to reel (7" reels were very popular) tape player. If you wanted to listen to the music in your car, again, the AM/FM radio and 4 track tape players which were replaced with the 8 track player. The four and eight track players were stereo. All of the tape players, except for the cassette, used 1/4" wide tape. The cassette tape was 1/8" wide. The recording/playback speeds of the reel to reel were 15, 7.5, 3.75 and 1.875 inches per second. The faster the speed, the better the quality of the recording.

Which was invented first the 8 track or the first portable radio?

The Philips Company of the Netherlands invented and released the first compact audio-cassette in 1962. They used high-quality polyester 1/8-inch tape produced by BASF. Recording and playback was at a speed of 1.7/8 inches per second. The next year in the U.S. sales began of the Norelco Carry-Corder dictation machine that used the new cassette tape. The consumer's demand for blank tape used for personal music-recording was unanticipated by Philips. History of Sound Recoding

How to erase reel to reel tapes?

It depends on which machine you are using. On my machine it is easy. I have a Teac A-4010S. I just got it yesterday, but I put the full reel on the left, and the empty reel on the right. I let the tape hang down loosely below the heads and pulleys and such. then i use my index finger to thread the tape from left to right, first Under the tension arm, then over the auto reverse foil sensor arm, then under the heads, then between the capstan and pinch roller, then under the auto shut off lever. that's it

Who invented 8 track?

8 track was created in 1964 by a consortium led by Bill Lear of Lear Jet Corporation, along with Ampex, Ford, Motorola and RCA Victor Records. ** Added to answer My research shows: The 8-track tape has roots that extend into the motion picture industry. Endless loop motion pictures were made from the 1920s on for advertising or other special purposes. With the appearance of inexpensive reel-to-reel tape recorders in the late 1940s, several inventors adapted the endless loop motion picture idea for use with the new German-style plastic recording tapes. Of these inventors, only one, William Powell Lear, gets much attention Regards, Jeffery Williams jwilliamsoh

What are SMD Cover Tape Extenders?

Cover tape extenders are used when a reel of SMD components doesn't have a leader at the beginning of the reel. The tape extenders add an additional 508mm (20") of tape as a leader and feed into SMT placement equipment as a piece of cover tape. These tape extenders reduce the loss of components when you have no leader tape to work with. Can be used with either paper or plastic tape, punched or formed pockets, from 8-44mm width.
