How do you change from being a prep to a punk?

To be punk you listen to punk music; wear crazy punk spiked-up, bold colored hair; and have a punk attitude. If you are a true prep you can never be even kinda punk, and if you are copying someone or you brag about being punk -EVER- you can never be punk. A change from a prep to a punk simply can not happen if you are really preppy, even if it is the very desire of your heart. ____________________________________________________________________________ Just be yourself. Dress how you want to dress, listen to what you want to listen to. Just be comfortable in your own skin and you won't feel the need to fit yourself into someone else's mold.

How did punk evolve?

Punk music is actually a contrived genre created by a Brit named Malcom McLaren who was the manager and publicist of The Sex-Pistols whose 1977 debut album "Nevermind The Bollocks: Here's The Sex-Pistols" became the prototype for English Punk. However American bands such as The Ramones, The New York Dolls, and Throbbing Gristle are historically considered to be true examples of Punk philosophically speaking and proceeded "The Pistols" by 2-3 years.

What are positive aspects of punk rock?

Punk is at essence a violent explosion of self expression, especially those more volatile emotions; love, hate, anger, sadness, envy, suspicion, etc... Because of this, defining Punk is impossible. Because it changes for everyone. violence and chaos and mohawks aside; punk can be quite beautiful. The biggest positive message that punk can send is to question everything and not blindly follow the leader. However, this is not always true. Punk is a very inconsistent topic with a lot of self evident redundancy's and misconceptions. If you don't think your a punker you probably arn't, and if you walk around like your fresh of the set of SLC then your probably a poser. The point is that punk is what punk is, punk. Its completely insane and riddled with malarcy. But at the end of the day punk can teach us that maybe we should question everything. Maybe everything is malarcy. maybe this response is malarcy. Maybe I'm not even a punker, maybe I'm a government agent trying to diverge you from punk subconsciously. See? Totally insane, but what if it's right?
