Well they never found a body, so maybe.

Plus there have been a number of sightings from around the world, the Canary Islands and India mostly. It does make sense too, a rockstar becoming tired of his life making a break for something else.

And it's not too hard to disappear to the Canaries from the UK, even without a fake passport all you'd need really is someone with a boat.

He disappeared in 1995 when he was meant to be flying to the US to do promotional stuff with the lead singer of the band he was in at the time. His car was found by the Severn Bridge so people believed him to have jumped off the bridge and committed suicide. However, his body has never been found but he was declared legally dead in 2008.
